The conceptual relationships between: VICENTE VERDÚ and the artwork of ILUMINADA GARCIA-TORRES (b. Elche1949 Spain) focuses on the synthesis of art, mathematics, and science. Verdú, a prominent Spanish writer and journalist, authored the text "The Essence of Ariadne" (7/4/2000) specifically for Iluminada García-Torres's artistic project, catalogue and exhibition titled "Continuous Spatial Tracing - Ariadne's Thread." (6-31/5/2000)

  • "The Thread of Ariadne" as a Methodology: For Iluminada García-Torres, the geometric and mathematical pattern derived from the classical sculpture Sleeping Ariadne (Prado Museum) serves as the foundation for her compositions, Verdú suggests thats this is the pattern represents the MUSIC and DNA of the marble sculpture, forming the basis of Iluminada García-Torres's geometric art.

  • DNA and Musicality: The work explores the "musicality" of geometry, where lines and structures follow a rhythmic and almost biological logic (DNA).

  • Verdú's Perspective: Verdú's text providing a literary and philosophical narrative for the visual form. Verdú often wrote about the intersection of culture, design, and the zeitgeist (spirit of the times), finding in the work of Iluminada García-Torres (born 1949, Elche) a reflection of modern complexity resolved through geometric harmony.

"The Thread of Ariadne" stems from the visual artist's deep obsession with the marble sculpture Sleeping Ariadne in Naxos at the Prado Museum, which she began two painting on canvas at the museum,1986-87

  • Origin at the Prado Museum: Iluminada García-Torres discovered a geometric and mathematical pattern in the classical marble sculpture of Ariadne that defines the figure's harmony.

  • Geometric Translation: From the classical figure, the artist develops a system of "combinables" and lines in continuous spatial layouts based on the matrix square.

  • Music and DNA: Vicente Verdú's text explores how Iluminada García-Torres decodes the sculpture as if it were a musical score the genetic code (DNA), transforming the marble's lines into musical vibrations and digital diagrams.

  • "The Thread of Ariadne": This series connects mythology with technological modernity, using geometry as the "thread" that guides creation through time and space.

It is fascinating how ILUMINADA GARCIA-TORRES (1949) manages to break a 2nd-century piece of marble to find its digital rhythmVicente Verdú, with his usual sharp wit, perfectly captured that transition: the artist does not merely copy the Sleeping Ariadne; she "hacks" her. By extracting the master square from the Prado Museum sculpture, she converts the classical myth into a language of vibrations and algorithms. It is, in essence, transforming stone into a visual score where the "thread" is no longer wool, but an infinite geometric connectionILUMINADA GARCIA-TORRES doesn’t stop at contemplating the marble; she treats it as source code.

Geometric-digital art project by visual artist ILUMINADA GARCIA-TORRES (1949 Elche, Spain): The lines drawn within each "mathematical unit-matrix square" in the system consist of "four horizon lines communicating the sides" aligned with the sides of adjacent squares. These form a "continuum" of ethereal rhythms in cartographies that express a perception of diverse cities and countries... within the computer-generated variables of the mathematical concept (1991), maintaining the geometric potential until achieving the harmony of the digital diagrams of Musicality: Sweden-Beijing-Africa-Madrid-Greece-New York-Brooklyn-Mumbai Bombay-Europe-Tokyo-Paris-Nepal-Berlin-Latin America-Universe-

ILUMINADA GARCÍA-TORRES (Elche, 1949) is a visual artist who studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and the UCM (1965–1970) in Madrid, where she was a student of the geometric painter Eusebio Sempere.
